I Folletti (The Elves)

I folletti (literally “the small fools”) are diminutive when compared to the Comari and behave in a different way. They are also shapeshifters, but they are closely associated with specific locations. Some live in wild places like a particular cave or in a beautiful pond. Some might even be dwelling in your own house! They have the same lack of tolerance for being offended, but they also have much more of a trickster spirit. Rarely completely malicious, they will hide objects from you or find other ways to trip you up if you run afoul of them. I Folletti can look like small humans or animals, or they can even disguise themselves as an inanimate object! They often wear brown or red hoods.

Occasionally, wild-dwelling Folletti might try to enter your home. If you want to make sure they don’t enter, brooms and branches of juniper keep them away. Meanwhile, any Folletti living in your home tend to act similarly to home and hearth gods, evaluating the orderliness of your household and acting accordingly. If your house is in disarray, they will contribute to the chaos. If you keep an orderly household, they will help you to keep things clean and tidy. To stay on their good side, keep your house clean (especially the kitchen), keep things peaceful, and leave them occasional food offerings. They prefer simple, rich foods like full fat milk, fruit and freshly baked bread, but they don’t turn their noses up at any freely offered gifts. If you make the effort to befriend the Folletti in your house, you can gain assistance from them simply by stating what you need aloud.

You can find more information about working with the Folletti in the upcoming exercises.
